Edna O’Brien launches the Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival tonight

In the opening event of the five-day festival dedicated to all things Samuel Beckett, O’Brien will be in conversation with William Crawley

Taking place from today until Monday 27 August, the first annual event of its kind will include Beckett-themed work by international artists, writers and celebrities. Highlights include Anthony Gormley’s steel Tree Waiting for Godot; the world premiere of Gavin Bryars’ The Beckett Songbook and Robert Wilson directing and performing in Krapp’s Last Tape.

Festival founder and director Sean Doran said: ‘Happy Days represents the culmination of a long-held idea: to give Beckett lovers across the world an annual home to gather and celebrate the writer’s genius and wit. It also presents a new model for a destination festival, which takes the work and life of a single artist as the starting point for a programme that spans all the art forms.’
